I was out with clients this weekend searching for the perfect non-wedding, wedding location in Washington DC.  Our search brought us to many very cute and beautiful places.  I have to write a post with some of these places because they were perfectly adorable and would work for a wedding.

Although I loved each place and felt that each one had it’s individual qualities – there was one that excited me the most! From the outside, it’s not much to look at.    A steep walk up the stairs, you enter into a cold, empty space with uneven floor and pealing walls .  I think many people would wonder.  I saw the greatest potential ever and was immediately inspired!  Raw space!  Perfect.  Create your vision within the four walls and 3,200 sq foot area.  Why not make it your own!

Through lighting and furniture you can make it into a romantic star studded evening – modern, contemporary, formal, whatever – cocktail to full seated reception!  Explore different layouts, color combos, and textures.

Explore yourself, and make the venue your own!

Raw space!

I will take some pictures and post them early next week.

I was so excited and Jonathan is an absolute dream!  Think about it and call Jonathan.  The Industry Gallery.

WOW, it’s really been forever.  I took a much needed break from the stresses of daily blogging.  Don’t know if you know – but it’s a lot of work.

Whew!

When I first started my blog, I read blogs of people who were very successful bloggers.  They said, if you don’t feel inspired, don’t blog.   As much as I love weddings and working with Brides and Grooms, I wasn’t motivated.   Since I heeded the word of people more successful than I – I just didn’t blog.

Strange thing, I missed it.

So, here I am catching up for the 3 days I missed.

Hum?

How do I combine a wedding tip, style and eco friendly?

A Ha!

The Father of the Bride created this arch using wood on his farm.  He conditioned and bent every single piece of wood.  This arch is 100 percent nature!  This Bride and Groom were absolutely lovely.

No matter what you have or don’t have – stay true to yourselves.  If you do that, your wedding will shine!  After all, the purpose of a wedding is to celebrate the love between two people.

We had  a beautiful intercultural Iranian and Unitarian wedding this past weekend.  All aspects of this wedding were so beautiful and personal.  We worked with the aunt of the Bride to put together the Sofreh.

What an experience!  I cannot wait for the next one!

So, I do not have pictures yet (but I cannot wait to post them), but I did want to post some beautiful pictures of Sofreh from around the web.

It’s the age old Bridal question – how does one choose one vendor over another?

Brides and Grooms agonize over decisions – and it’s really hard.

Let’s first start by talking about a few criteria that couple’s are using.  Then, we will talk about how I help my couple’s choose.

So, how do couples choose between vendors?

1.  Price – a big one.  With two vendors seeming pretty equal, they go with the cheaper one (price wise).

2.  Work ethic.  Couples will go with the one that seemingly will work harder for them

3.  Best Value – seemingly.  If photographer A gives 8 hours service for $4,000.00 and Photographer B offers 8 hours service, 1-8X10, 10-5X7’s, and 50-4X6’s for $4,000.00 – it’s not difficult to see who many couple’s would choose, no?

How Lisa Chooses between vendors

1.  Service – the biggest one.  I want someone who is going to treat me well – no matter how much I am spending.  I want someone who is going to respect me, my time, my wants and my needs.  If a vendor treats me poorly, you bet they are going to treat your guests poorly.

2.  Style.  It’s so important that style is similar between the client and prospective vendor.  Whether it be a florist, planner, designer, etc – they will be contributing to the day.  The style and vision must be spot on under no uncertain terms.  The couple must trust that things will be what they want.

3.  Quality of product.  Excuse the lack of professionalism here – if your pictures are messed up – you paid too much – no matter whether your package was $200.00 or $20,000.00.  Messed up wedding pictures and video totally suck.

4.  Personality – you need to have people that you can work with closely for the next 6 months to a year of your life.  More importantly, work with on the day of your wedding.  If you hate your photographer, reception site or planner – it’s going to be a very hard and long road.  Plus, it shows in your pictures.

5.  Integrity – If they are not honest, it’s a deal breaker!

So, when meeting with vendors, it’s important that you ask the questions on the list.  In addition, sit back and talk to them about whatever.  It will give you insight into their personality,  how hard they will work, how much they care about your wedding and what you want.

These are attributes that can only be quantified by the couple doing the interviewing.

While I am still drooling over custom letterpress invitations from Ladyfingers Letterpress, I wanted to mention that they believe as environmental responsibility.  They purchase all of their papers locally, they set up their designs to minimize paper waste, and use only non-toxic solvents!

How cool is this?

And, all the designs are custom.  Did I mention that?

Custom letterpress that’s environmentally responsible!

What’s more elegant than Letterpress?

Nada.

So when Arley-Rose and Morgan approached us with their new custom line of invites, we had to jump!  Hooray!  Affordable custom Letterpress invites.

So excited!

Each individual design is handcrafted with love.  Finally!  Say goodbye to the templates and hello to customization.  That’s what we love at Elegant Event Planning and Design.  Customization for you and your wedding.  After all, your wedding is different – why not your invites?

Ladyfingers Letterpress is LGBT owned and operated.  They donate 10% of each sale (in the couple’s name) to the Human Rights Campaign, a non-profit organization that works for equal rights and marriage in America.

What’s better than that?

I love it!

Check out Ladyfingers Letterpress on the web and give them a call!

I have been on a photographer kick the last week, so I am going to go with it.

I wonder why that is?  Maybe it’s because your photographer will be an integral part of your day. He/she will be spending the entire day with you – taking pictures.  Plain and simple, It’s important that you love your photographer and you love his or her work.

I know I have said this many many times before, but I think it’s worth repeating.

Hire the photographer that you love.  Photography is an art – not a science.  Each photographer has his/her own style.  You are hiring the talent and personality.  It’s impossible for one photographer to emulate the work of another.  It just does not work.  So, if you think showing one photographer a picture and asking him/her to replicate it – in effort to save some dough.  Forgetaboutit.  It will never ever happen.  Keep searching for one in your budget – cause he or she is out there.  Or alternatively, maybe your budget was unrealistic?

Even with the same couple in front of the same staircase, photographer A’s picture will look completely different from photographer B.  Sometimes it is so vastly different, you find yourself wondering – is this the same couple in front of the same staircase?

After I take care of my kids and my client’s, there is no time for myself.

Well, that doesn’t make sense, so I got out my ipod (which was in the deep depths of hell, by the way) – I haven’t used that thing for so long.  I put on some tunes and started exercising.  Man, it’s amazing some of the songs I have on there.  As I was listening, I was like, perfect wedding song – one right after another.

So, from my ipod to yours…enjoy
