I was approached by a Bride who was planning a wedding in Kansas City. Her government position often took her out of the country, so she did not have the time or energy to plan her wedding. It was my job to create an overall look and feel for her intimate Kansas City affair. She knew she wanted to incorporate gold, but didn’t have any idea of how to create the design scheme for the entire event. We started by looking at pictures of her beautiful reception site, filled with rich dark wood and one of the most beautiful decorated ivory ceilings. The design scheme became immediately clear. She wanted colors that would pop among the regal décor, so I suggested bright hues of red, orange and yellow callas, roses, and orchids. I started by designing the ceremony. The rich tones and grandiose pillars created a beautiful backdrop for an intimate candlelight celebration. Single candelabras lined the aisle, which was draped in an ivory runner, and contained spays of greenery tied with a simple gold satin bow. An elegant fireplace marked the end of the aisle, which became the housing to an abundance of ivory pillar candles. The aisle was finished with two large candelabras containing sprays of elegant flowers in the red, orange and yellow color scheme. 2 sets of elegant pillars created a natural aisle. Each individual pillar was up-lit with a soft white light. The chairs were draped in ivory cotton and finished with a simple gold organza bow.

As the guests enjoyed live chamber music, food and drink in the library, the catering staff converted the intimate ceremony area into a stately reception. The round tables were draped in ivory floor length clothes and finished off with a gold sparkle organza overlay. Small but meaningful centerpieces created with flowers in red, orange and yellow, were elegantly placed.

The entire event screamed traditional elegance; from the Bride’s simple but upscale Romona Kevenza gown and magnificent site, to an intimate candlelight ceremony and an elegantly understated reception. We helped to create a timeliness and unforgetable celebration.
