Lighting design really makes a statement.  Take a look.

Ariel Yve Designs

One can always find very beautiful but dramatic lighting design.  Take a look…

Or it can be simple and still make a statement.

For example, some elegant pinspotting

Or some white or colored Chinese Lanterns.

Some simple uplighting and pinspotting

Here are some lighting terms – so you know what you need when you approach a lighting company

Can uplighting – With a variety of colors available, you choose 1 color to project on walls, columns, etc.  It stays  the same color the entire night – and adds a dramatic effect to any space.

LED Uplighting – Allowing for a large variety of colors, this type of lighting can be programed to change color.  The look and feel of the space can change within seconds.  This type of lighting is more energy efficient

Gobo Lighting – An image, pattern, monogram or design is cut into metal and projected onto walls, ceilings or floors.  Typically, the light is one color, but multiple gobo projections can be made for a multi-colored effect.

Pinspotting – This type of lighting is used to brighten centerpieces, cakes, food stations, or any other focal point in the room.

There are so many beautiful things about a Bride.  How could there not be?  She is at the happiest point in her life – starting a new life with her life partner.  It’s a magical time – it really is.

Sometimes I think the most subtle statements are also the most beautiful statements.

Just a single flower in the hair makes a elegant and stately statement.

I was out with clients this weekend searching for the perfect non-wedding, wedding location in Washington DC.  Our search brought us to many very cute and beautiful places.  I have to write a post with some of these places because they were perfectly adorable and would work for a wedding.

Although I loved each place and felt that each one had it’s individual qualities – there was one that excited me the most! From the outside, it’s not much to look at.    A steep walk up the stairs, you enter into a cold, empty space with uneven floor and pealing walls .  I think many people would wonder.  I saw the greatest potential ever and was immediately inspired!  Raw space!  Perfect.  Create your vision within the four walls and 3,200 sq foot area.  Why not make it your own!

Through lighting and furniture you can make it into a romantic star studded evening – modern, contemporary, formal, whatever – cocktail to full seated reception!  Explore different layouts, color combos, and textures.

Explore yourself, and make the venue your own!

Raw space!

I will take some pictures and post them early next week.

I was so excited and Jonathan is an absolute dream!  Think about it and call Jonathan.  The Industry Gallery.

I love candlelight.  It’s so romantic, and does so much for a room.    It’s beautiful with flowers or alone.

Take a look…

The candles should be within the style and theme of your wedding.  You don’t want your centerpieces to appear thrown together.

Use interesting holders of different colors and textures.

I have tried to use examples where the flame is covered in glass.  Where can you use an open flame these days?  At home?  Not many places will allow and open flame.

Ah, what a post of beauty.  As much as I love fresh cut flowers, I love ingenious and unique centerpiece ideas.

Ever thought about incorporating fruits and vegetables?  Check it out!

They are lovely, aren’t they?

Simply 50’s, simply sophisticated.  I love the birdcage veil – A look of softness, femininity, independence and pure attitude.  It’s stylish in it’s simplicity.  Your headpiece can complete your look – and compliment your theme.   In 2010, Bride’s are expressing themselves in extraordinary ways!

Express yourself.

This year, Valentines Day has been a wealth of inspiration for me – for practical and nice ideas.  Yesterday’s inspiration came from a homemade valentines dinners of fajitas, homemade guacamole, and delicious frozen ritas!

Today’s inspiration was from a gorgeous Orchid plant that my hubby gave me for Valentines day.  Orchids are gorgeous and so elegant.  What a lovely centerpiece that your guests could take home and take care of for years to come.

Ehm.  Excuse the cell phone picture.  My hubby took the camera with him this morning.  You have to make due with what you have, no?

At any rate, take out all the pink frilly stuff that comes with valentines day – place the plant in a beautiful ceramic ornamental vase and you have one hell of a centerpiece that someone can grow and enjoy.

Plus, they are EASY!  Give it some indirect light, water it once a week, add liquid fertilizer once a month and re-pot every two years.

How’s that for reducing waste?

Now, before you decide to undertake this, remember your guests and where they are coming  from.  If a bulk are from out of the country – maybe it’s not such a good idea!

Stations are a very nice way to put an elegant and upscale feel to the traditional buffet wedding.  You can create interesting interactions, introduce your guests to a variety of cultures, share your culture with your guests, or just have a variety of foods that you and your groom love.

Just some interesting ideas:

A Mongolian BBQ station, with beef, chicken and a wide range of seafood, vegetable and sauce choices.  Personalized to each guest and cooked right in front of them.

A Quesadilla station with homemade tortillas, a chicken or seafood choice, a variety of vegetables and cheeses.

An Italian harvest station with prosciutto, salami, sausage, provolone, and a variety of harvest breads and spreads.

Dessert and candy bar stations are all the rage now.  A beautifully appointed station will be remembered for years to come.

Over the past nine years, we have worked with a lot of different couples – all with different visions on how they want their day.

It’s not our job to sell our couples on our dream.  All of us at Elegant Event Planning and Design have had our days the way we wanted them – and now it’s our job to make your day your way!  We want you to have what you want.

I just wanted to post some pictures of our couples enjoying their day – their way.  You will notice that there is a variety – different budgets, Ethnicity’s, styles, and formalities.  However, there was one common thread, that they wanted to enjoy with little worry.

Enjoy!

Happy planning!
