Comfort is key! Anybody who knows me, knows that I’m all about comfort.  Having hurting feet can shift your focus from the the glory of the day – and the wonderful man that you choose to spend the rest of your life with – to painful and swollen feet.   Yuck.  Pain can affect everything, walking , pictures, dancing – the total enjoyment of your day.

Not fun.

And totally annoying.

Ballet flats are cute for the Bride, the Bridesmaids, Jr. Bridesmaids and flower girls.

You can do some fun things with color!

Guess what ladies?  They don’t even have to be made of satin.  There are beautiful ones out there made of breathable leather.  Comfortable and breathable – imagine that!

I don’t use them all the time – on the contrary – very little.  If it’s a very clean, modern, and edgy feel that you are going for – then this might be one avenue for you to pursue.  With spandex, everything is very clean and polished.  You see only edges and curves – no draping.  If I use them, most of the time it’s on accessory tables – in combination with some lighting to make it more “cool nightclub-ish” – to separate the look and feel to different aspects of the reception.

I think it’s a great look and feel for the “right wedding”.  To pull it off, you have to choose everything with careful consideration.

In all honesty, I’m not so fond of doing spandex on the guest tables.  It looks really cool and all, but I’m not sure it’s too comfortable for your guests.  Try it out and see what you think.

It’s a look.

Happy planning!

Lighting design really makes a statement.  Take a look.

Ariel Yve Designs

One can always find very beautiful but dramatic lighting design.  Take a look…

Or it can be simple and still make a statement.

For example, some elegant pinspotting

Or some white or colored Chinese Lanterns.

Some simple uplighting and pinspotting

Here are some lighting terms – so you know what you need when you approach a lighting company

Can uplighting – With a variety of colors available, you choose 1 color to project on walls, columns, etc.  It stays  the same color the entire night – and adds a dramatic effect to any space.

LED Uplighting – Allowing for a large variety of colors, this type of lighting can be programed to change color.  The look and feel of the space can change within seconds.  This type of lighting is more energy efficient

Gobo Lighting – An image, pattern, monogram or design is cut into metal and projected onto walls, ceilings or floors.  Typically, the light is one color, but multiple gobo projections can be made for a multi-colored effect.

Pinspotting – This type of lighting is used to brighten centerpieces, cakes, food stations, or any other focal point in the room.

Happy illuminating!

Yesterday we went to the beach.  I have never seen the Pacific.  It was beautiful – but to the untrained eye – not much different than the Atlantic.  The water was crisp and cool.  I bought little plastic shovels and buckets and the kids made sand castles.  We searched for seashells to bring home.  I buried the family in sand.

So sweet.

Even on a Tuesday – umbrellas were everywhere.  The water was so beautifully blue, that it was hard to determine where the water ended and the sky started.

The warm sand, the crystal clear blue water, the palm trees, the blue sky and the warm sun – got me thinking about awesome weddings and cool drinks.

Check out this blue baby

The Blue Hawaiian

  • 1 oz Light rum
  • 2 oz Pineapple juice
  • 1 oz Blue Curacao
  • 1 oz Cream of coconut
  • 1 slice Pineapple
  • 1 Cherry

The Pineapple and the umbrella are an absolute must!

Happy sunbathing!

Inspiration sneaks up on you at the most interesting times.

I was looking out our hotel window – on the 11the floor – admiring the blue skies  and soaking in the scenery.

Isn’t that sky beautiful?  It’s been like this everyday.  WOW!  Imagine not having to go through Disneyland in hot humid weather.

I looked down and saw the most amazing wedding venue – right in the hotel.

I started drooling?  Can you imagine?  It’s a huge open space – just waiting.  Just sitting their longing to be dressed up and admired.  The hotel surrounds his open space – sort of like the space is a valley around building.  It is so pretty.  Dressed up – this space is “to die for”.  A larger wedding would look absolutely amazing.  The round tables would be superb.  You could put a large band and dancing area on the right.

You could hang Chinese lanterns overhead.  Those palm trees are just asking to be uplit.  To see the stars on a clear day – maybe through a clear tent.

Add some beautiful linens, some amazing floral and lighting design – you would have one magical and memorable evening.

Ho hum!  Dreams.  This is definitely going onto my “wedding bucket list”.  I would love to design a wedding in a space like this.

Happy drooling!

I’ve tasted this one first hand – and YUM!  It’s absolutely perfect for a summer wedding – especially one taking place outdoors.

Of course, you should coordinate your drink with your wedding colors!  Check out this very HOT drink – which is perfect for a little something blue!

Here’s how it’s made

1 1/2 oz. Vodka
1/2 oz. Blue Curacao
2 oz. Sweet and Sour Mix
7-Up or Sprite
Lemon Slice
Add a Maraschino Cherry for color

Substitute that Vodka for some Rum – and you are in signature drink heaven!

Who could be more sophisticated than Grace Kelly?  She was “simplistic” elegance and grace.  When I think of pure sophistication – I think of the women of “days olde”.  The hair was simple, the dresses were simple -  and now – 60-70 years later – still in style.

The hair – the hair sets off the entire look.  Little adornment but totally classy.

Check out these styles “of olde”.

OMG – the flowers!  I’m in heaven.  I love the look of a few small blooms in the hair – maybe some orchids, or stephanotis. No veil, no nothing – just a few simple blooms carefully placed.

Ho hum.

Happy styling.

I love the feeling of a tented reception.  It’s so light, airy, and free.  Plus, when you are renting the tent, you can do just about anything under the tent.

A lot can be done under the tent to make it pretty.  Of course, it starts with the chairs and linens you use, but also you can get liners, parasols, lighting – to give it the little extra “Oomph”.  So pretty.  Believe it or not, the extra added touches really do make a difference.

Check this out!

Big difference!  Plus, the white aisle runner wasn’t in this picture when I took it.

This tent is so beautiful, soft and elegant – and what an impression!

This tent is located at the Sunken Garden at the Mount Vernon Inn – and belongs to the Inn.

Happy planning!
